Dr. Leavitt was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended UT Knoxville and then Dental School at UT Memphis. In his first year of Dental School, he was selected for a research team at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis where he continued working until graduation. Upon graduation, Dr. Leavitt served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps for two years where he was stationed initially at Fort Sam Houston and then at Fort Benning. He finds interacting with patients the most rewarding part of his day and enjoys all aspects of restorative dentistry. When he is not treating patients, he likes spending time with his wife Joyce, sons, John Jr. and Blair, and grandchildren Ava, John, and Winston. Dr. Leavitt joined DentFirst in December 2002 after leaving his 35 year private practices in Decatur and Peachtree Corners. His lifetime dental memberships include the Georgia Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
